CONCEPT OF ACID BASES
There are three concepts of bases and acid.
- Arrhenius concept
- Bronsted -Lowry concept
- Lewis concept
Arrhenius concept: It is the concept that acid release Hᐩ ion and bases release OH⁻ ion.
Ex:
Bronsted -Lowry concepts: An acid is any molecule or ion that donate a proton(Hᐩ)
or a base is any molecule or ion that receives (Hᐩ ) proton.
Ex: Hcl gas and H2O
Hcl and NH3(ammonia)
An acid is an electron - pair acceptor.
A base is an electron-pair donor.
Ex: Between Hᐩ and OH⁻
Between Hᐩ and NH3(ammonia)
